JETAA Chicago at the 2024 Hanami at the Garden of the Phoenix

Writer: JETAA ChicagoJETAA Chicago

A beautiful day greeted the large crowd that gathered to celebrate spring and the 2024 “Hanami” flower viewing event at the Garden of the Phoenix this past May. Smiles bloomed across the crowd at the captivating taiko drums and traditional dance performances, koi fish lazily swam about in the ponds, and visitors crossed the garden’s newly replaced Moon Bridge.

Two of our JETAA Chicago leaders showed their support with our partners and volunteered at the crafts, arts, and games stations. Claudia was busy with the Origami Table, where Samurai hats were pretty popular because of Japan's Children's Day. Sara challenged visitors to test their skills at the game of Kendama, where many people of all ages came to try. Fellow JET Alumni attended too, showing off their vibrant kimonos while enjoying the events and strolling in the garden.
