Join us Thursday, September 29th from 6-7 pm CST, for JETAA Chicago's Japanese Language Series event for September! It's time to prepare for the JLPT in December, so we're getting serious! We will be going through some listening strategies and activities based on the JLPT N4, N3, and N2. Not preparing for any of those tests? No worries! The night will still be an opportunity for Japanese listening practice for all skill levels. ぜひ来てください!

The Japanese Language Series events are intended to bring together JETAA members and supporters who want to stay engaged with Japanese language learning and use.

Welcome 2022 JET Returnees and Chicago JET Alumni! We are hosting a tsukemono tasting event at Chicago's lovely Konbini & Kanpai store! Please join us on Saturday, September 24th from 12 to 2 PM CST to enjoy some delicious tsukemono prepared by our very own alum, Keilyn Kuramitsu.

The store is located in Chicago's Lakeview neighborhood at 1433 W Belmont Ave. We will be providing some small dishes for JET Alumni to enjoy, but only have enough tickets for the first 15 attendees to sign up. After that, you are still welcome to attend, but please feel free to purchase your own beverages/snacks while we are at the store.

Sign up here!

Whether you're a recently returned alum or you've been back a while, we hope you can stop by!

*This event is for JET returnees and alumni only.

There's a little over a month left until our October book club meeting! Join JETAA Chicago and the Japan America Society of Chicago (JASC) YPC on Tuesday, October 18th, with a few special guests!

Our book club will focus on highlighting voices and stories with a strong connection to Japan. For our next meeting we have chosen Clark and Division. Written by Naomi Hirohara, set on the northside of Chicago in 1944, the story follows a young woman searching for the truth about her revered older sister’s death, bringing to focus the struggles of one Japanese American family released from mass incarceration at Manzanar during World War II. Thanks to the efforts of the JASC, our discussion will be joined by representatives from the Arlington Heights Memorial Library and organizers of the One Book One Village initiative, Catalina Shin and Neal Parker. To learn more about the Library’s programs, click here! Be sure to pick up a copy of the book and then join us for an evening of casual discussion in a virtual space via Zoom! Registrations are limited, so grab a spot while you can!
