It was a warm evening in early June when the end-of-year feast was held at Virtual Hogwarts. The students gathered together one last time before dispersing to their individual homes.

The lessons had been long, and the exam questions difficult. Yet the students had been eager to express the knowledge they'd gained. Everyone had worked hard to reach this moment.

"This year's House Cup goes to..."

JETAA Chicago's Third Time's the Charm Harry Potter Trivia Night was a rousing success! Wizarding World fans from all over the US, Canada, and even Japan gathered together for a night of nerdery and fun. What followed was a battle of memory and wit, with House Pride on the line!

Each question was worth 100 points, with the whole game coming to 3000 points! However, it's not as easy as just choosing the right answer. Each question decreases in value as time elapses, so speed is just as important. The cries of dismay when a wrong answer was selected too quickly echoed throughout the courtyard... erm. Conference room. But at least Cassie's typos and other mistakes helped to relieve the tension ^_^'

After three rounds of magical mischief, it was time to tally up the scores. First, we'd like to give a shout-out to the top four players, who also happen to be the MVP's for their individual Houses!

Holly and Jeremy maintained positions in the top three throughout all three rounds, while Lauren and Carl each took first once. An extra shout-out to Dustin, who took first in the second round!

Our between round discussions of favorite classes and coveted charms were illuminating to say the least. Some of the answers definitely confirmed the Sorting Hat's decisions regarding House placement...

This was our first attempt at a Team Trivia format. When logging into the quiz app, players could choose from one of the four Hogwarts Houses. Interestingly enough, with sixteen players we wound up with almost equal teams! The winning team was calculated by averaging the individual scores of its members. And despite hailing from different parts of the country (and the world!), we proved that House Pride brings everyone together.

And now, the moment you've all been waiting for... Which team took the House Cup???

Congratulations to the winning team! Lauren, Jenn M, and Jess proved that few can truly be mighty!

We're looking forward to our next event! Hope to see you there ^_^

If you love Harry Potter as much as we do, then this is the event for you! Join us for our Third Time’s the Charm Harry Potter trivia night!

Whether you’ve only read the books or only seen the movies, this trivia challenge is sure to be fun for all. Show off your Wizarding World wisdom and compete with your fellow alumni to earn the House Cup!

That’s right! This time it’s to be a Team Challenge between Hogwarts Houses! We’ll be using the same quiz platform as the previous trivia nights, but this time when you enter the game you’ll be able to choose which Hogwarts House team you want to join. The team with the highest average score will win the game!

We are limiting the number of competitors, so only the first 20 RSVPs for the Trivia Participant ticket will be able to officially compete.

Of course, spectators are welcome and encouraged to join as well! We’ll be doing our usual between round icebreakers and discussions, nerding out and goofing off.

Introductions will start promptly at 7pm CST, with an aim for the trivia to start at 7:20pm. If you are not on the call by 7:20pm, we may give your spot to another alumni. The event should wrap up around 9:00pm.

* This event is for JET alumni-only. If an alumni is social distancing with a Friend/Family of JET (FOJ), they are welcome to join on their screen with them.

3:00 pm ~ 4:00 pm CST

The COVID-19 pandemic has challenged our lives in nearly every sense — from how we think and communicate, to our daily routines and work habits. But through these challenges, many of us have rediscovered the joy and satisfaction of cooking at home using minimal ingredients.

On Sunday, May 17, at 3 PM CST, we invite you to join JETAA Chicago for a virtual Netflix Watch Party. We will watch Episode 1 of the Netflix series, “Midnight Diner,” about a chef whose late night diner attracts an array of interesting characters every night in the early hours of the morning, while the rest of Tokyo sleeps.

Joining us will be Seimi Rurup, social media coordinator of the Japanese cooking website Just One Cookbook. Seimi grew up in New Jersey and is heavily influenced by Japanese, Korean, and Italian cooking. She will share general cooking tips and discuss different ways to make the main dish featured in Episode 1 of Midnight Diner (“Tan-men” タンメン).

Participants also will receive a PDF of cooking tips curated by JETAA Chicago Philanthropy Coordinator Sheila Burt, with input from her brother, Robert Burt. Robert has nearly two decades of experience in the food industry and is a certified sommelier and cheese expert.

After signing up, participants will be emailed the PDF and receive a Netflix Watch Party link on the day of the event. The event is free and open to both JETAA alumni and Friends of JET, but participants must have a Netflix account and download the Netflix Party Google Chrome extension prior to the event.

Introductions will start promptly at 3:00pm with an aim for the show to start at 3:15pm. After the show, a Q&A session will begin around 3:45pm.
