Japanese Language Series - "Kanji Town" Competition!

We're easing into the new year with our next Japanese language event! This time, instead of a Zoom meeting, we'll be doing the event all month long, in the JETAA Chicago Discord server! What type of event? We'll be having a "kanji town" competition. Anyone who wants to participate should come up with the most creative story for remembering how to read/write a kanji. The story can be anything you have used to help remember how to read or write a Kanji before in your studies; it just has to be entertaining!

Check out our Discord server if you want to participate, and stop by the Nihongo-club channel!

Still virtual in 2022, JETAA Chicago's annual Shinnenkai is back!

This year we are spreading the fun out over two days - Friday, February 4 and Saturday, February 5! Each day will have a different focus, as we celebrate the culture of Japan and our community’s continued connection to it. In honor of that connection, funds raised will go to support two of our local partners - the Japan America Society of Chicago and the Japanese Culture Center!

Friday, Feb. 4 - 6PM-7PM CST - Kick-off Our welcome event featuring presentations from our partners and more.

Saturday, Feb. 5 - 7PM-9PM CST - Cultural Connections Happy Hour(s): Recipe Swap and Trivia Night An evening of exploring our connections with Japan through our culinary favorites. Part I will open a discussion about how our community (JETs and Friends of JET) maintain our Japan connections through food! Attendees are encouraged to bring stories and recipes to swap! After the event, JETAA Chicago is going to collect the recipes and share them with everyone that attends. Part II features an all out Trivia Battle theme around Japanese Food with the chance to win wonderful prizes for those that make a donation! Anyone can attend, but you must sign-up for the “+Trivia” ticket in order to participate in the game itself.

General Admission is free for both days, but attendees have the option to upgrade to expand their experience. Go to the sign-up below to see our Guestlist page with full details about the different days and ticket options.

We hope to see you there!
